Does anybody still read these?
So it's been a very long time since I've really shared any music with people; I haven't actually written or recorded all that much either, just a handful of ideas I never fully developed. As such, I've decided to put up a bunch of stuff I actually have done in the meantime.
All the stuff is uploaded on my website, so just look under "2007" on this page (http://llirik.com/output.html)
Here's one I'm particularly proud of, although it sounds like a fusion of many songs that may or may not sound familiar. Nothing's copied, but ideas are surely borrowed. Sonus
And here's one that is just really pleasing to hear methinks. The main riff is a bit of a beaut. anti-rust
So if you guys still read LJ and see this, take a listen and let me know what thou thinkst after my rather extended sabbatical. Thanks and cheers.
You see this? This is a "do whatever I want and get away with it" badge.

So I've been seperated from my beautiful recording equipment for about three months now. Been living at a friend's house (and Calgary) while my house gets finished. And tomorrow I finally get to move into the house, so I'll be recording more.
Just before I packed up, I did however get some tracks done. They're a bit rough, but still sound great. I'm on live drums too, which needs work.
Fairness Grave
I got a new pedal and you can tell by the newish guitar sounds. Though the switches between the effects you can pick up on.

Very busy last few months. I've been jamming with a few friends and have performed (sort of) in two places so far doing covers of a bunch of songs ranging from the Chili Peppers to Limp Bizkit to Foo Fighters and even Blur. May has a few songs in the works but not completed. There are some from April that I never showed, so here they are:
And Now - A rather heartfelt peice that hopefully brings emotion out of the listener.
Tea on a Sunday - I am extremely happy with both the bass line and the drumming in this one. The recording on the drums has improved, but the bass is to note on this one; it sounds great musically and aesthetically.
Melissa: You know, you're just mad because your stupid little pebble theory didn't work out and you don't know how to express your anger. Ace: Oh yeah? And you're ugly.

I think this is the longest time that I've gone without recording a new track. I usually do about 10 a month, and its halfway through March and I just recorded a few today.
I borrowed my friend's drumset and been slowly teaching myself how to play when I get the time. So I decided to setup the mic (by taping it to my ceiling and letting it hang, no less) and give playing a real drum track a shot. I only did two takes so it isn't the greatest; some tempo errors. But hey, you live and learn right? I had a shitload of fun playing the drums to care about that.

Acoustic-orientated double feature this time, a slight break from the standard verse-chorus-bridge format.

Of the new tracks I've previewed, this one seems to have been the most liked. After 4 or 5 years of guitaring, however long it's been, I finally decided to purchase a Capo. This track is done with the capo waaaay up on the 5th fret giving it that rather rich and clear sound of high strings. Also, I've decided to try a gauge I haven't played yet. I restrung from my typical heavy 13 gauge mixed 11 (yeah, I mix strings cuz I'm cool) with the super light of .09. It's much easier on the fingers. Although my B string is still a 13.
Song is slightly inspired by Death Cab for Cutie's Wait.
Patient Wanting

The heart and soul of this track were conceived exactly one month ago today. Recorded shortly after getting back from New York and it was actually "performed" on a classical 6-string. Acoustic sounds better.

| Go to Hell and while you're there, get me a juice box! |
[13 Nov 2005|08:19pm] |
I like to figure out things meself, even if it includes using my voice. Such as this: my first "official" singing track...my first real "song".
I originally came up with this over a month ago and recorded it then when I had Bronchitis. But then...I had bronchitis, so my voice was all blewy. And I was using a poor mic. I showed it to a few people and the response was better than expected, so I rercorded it today. Added some more to it, adjusted the mix and here you have it:
Here Comes the Hit

| Because I'm Wierd Like That |
[30 Oct 2005|07:03pm] |
Inspired by Iron Maiden's Blood Brothers. Except there's no crazy guitar and violin solo. A little more mellow though, I'd say.

[23 Oct 2005|11:17pm] |
For some reason, I've gotten to the point of making music where the progressions and stuff change constantly throughout a track and sometimes only for those four bars and never come back. This would be a swell example.

Recently, I decided to take an older track of mine and redo it. In the process, I took a completley different approach though and didn't treat it as a normal, formulaic track. Instead, I tried to evolve it into something more epic.
The result, a shorter, yet more dynamic recording of a tune I had come up with over a year ago. Think this would fit well for the theme of something/someone?

A few weeks ago I had recorded a track title "Hectic Summer" which captured my summer quite well with System of A Down-Like guitar riffs and drumming, but I think anyone who keeps up to date with my other journal has a small idea of at least half the events during the summer. Summer 2005 actually was awesome (other summers were not, for me).
So instead, there is this track, which marks my second year going to Ryerson. I think this track is more catch and pleasing than Hectic Summer.

I recorded the music to the lyrics I posted recently. I think it has a nice rythmn to it and I've been told it's pretty catchy. Now I just need someone who can sing.

There really is a lot of stuff on my computer I've completley forgotten about. One such "stuff" is a music video-sortof ...thing I had done for one of my courses in first year.
Shot partly on actual 16mm FILM (a first for me) and partly on good ol miniDV, I took a song I had recorded and used it as the piece. I actually made this three projects in one. See how efficient I am? Lighting, film, and audio rolled all into one project. And I got 90's on this which is cool.
